Rose Tint vs. Sun Shield
Hi everyone,
I'm looking to expand my sunglasses collection and wondering whether I should go for a more pronounced rose-tinted lens or something better suited to strong sunlight.
I'm light-sensitive and wear sunglasses almost constantly when outdoors. Currently, I use:
Maui Jim Momi (Natural Grey / MauiBrilliant) – my favorite for sunny days. A bit cool in tone, but perfect when the sun is really bright.
Maui Jim Kaulana (MauiRose / MauiBrilliant) – works well in cloudy or bright overcast weather, though the rose effect is a bit subtle and feels more like a grey/rose mix in these conditions, possibly due to the gradient lens?
In addition, I have:

I’m overwhelmed by sunglass choices and would appreciate some input. My current cheap polarized pair is no longer adequate due to progressive retinal degeneration. On bright days, I experience hazy vision, yellow streaks and washout, poor contrast, and extreme brightness, hindering navigation (even when others are fine without eyewear). AI suggested Maui Jim HCL Bronze, Maui Jim MauiGreen, and Costa del Mar Green Mirror (on copper base). Though they won’t be able to fix my retinas, functionality is paramount, not aesthetics or color accuracy. I need them for walking and significant time on the water. Any advice or suggestions would again be greatly appreciated!
I think Costa Green mirror is good advice. High contrast, very dark and comfortable, and great overall quality of material and coatings.

Yes, things usually become clear once you try them out personally. Good to know about the 555nm. If I’m looking for something darker than Maui Jim Grey, should I be considering Costa Del Mar, Vuarnet, or maybe Randolph? I find the VLT stats from the companies a bit misleading at times. Thanks again – I really appreciate the info you share on this site.
