Serengeti Photochromic in cars

I remember seeing some commentary on the above in regard to whether they work in cars. This is what I got back from Serengeti.

"Thank you for your request and your interest in our Serengeti.

We confirm that our photochromic lenses work properly in a car. In that case we recommend our Mineral Polarized Drivers lens. This lens is engineered to transmit and distinguish red, green and yellow colors, so they can pop in all environments. This lens provides technicolor sensations of warmth and is ideal for driving because it enhances colors and contrast, while lightening and darkening to provide optimal light transmission in any condition."

Just got a pair of drivers gold and tested this. From my (not very scientific) test I don’t think the photochromic properties work the same through glass. I tested through my windshield and also in one of my house windows, and exposure to light didn’t seem to darken the lens. However, stepping outside, after a few minutes I could see the lens had darkened notably.
