Rudy Project Lens Tints Reference Guide

This gallery provides a visual reference for Rudy Project lens tints as seen from the back, helping you compare different options side by side. If you're looking for more details, be sure to check out our in-depth Rudy Project lens reviews (coming soon) and side-by-side lens comparisons for a closer look at performance and features. This Rudy Project lens tint reference guide is just for visual comparison, but there are many more details for each lens we discuss. For now, these are the ImpactX lenses only, which are RP's premium Trivex photochromic lenses. All pictures have been taken once the lenses were fully activated in bright sunlight.

Rudy Project ImpactX lenses are Trivex with a hard coating, photochromic with a huge range (~75-16% VLT).

The Laser Black is very dark in full sun, has a slightly blue and relaxed feel to it. I would recommend it to people who are in very hot and sunny places like Arizona. When I say it's dark, it is really dark.

The Black feels like a standard grey lens to me. Not as dark as the Laser Black and can be worn in regular sunny conditions anywhere. The lens quality and material itself is worth a lot but the tint doesn’t have as much to talk about. A good option for those who want dark, but don't want the mirror's aesthetic.

The Laser Purple is the best of the neutral options. It still feels in the category of a grey lens but the colors are much more defined and vibrant, very noticeable when compared to the other grey options. It’s interesting because there isn’t a noticeable shift in tint but I suppose the mirror reflecting purple (mostly red and blue light) has that effect. It is also not as dark as the other options which I think is better for sports. This is the lens I would recommend to people who want a colorful and comfortable view in bright conditions.

It's not as dark as the Laser Black or Crimson, but it's still pretty dark for a Photochromic lens.

The real magic is the two Red lenses.

These are rose-based, non-polarized, color-enhancing, and impact-resistant lenses, something not easy to find. They get dark enough to be comfortable in bright sun but not too dark, which is advantageous for sports where you do want more light to work with for more visual information.

They have 2 rose options, the Red and Laser Red. I'll be reviewing all their ImpactX lenses separately, but these two have me the most excited. I love them for tennis and golf, and I'm sold. Laser Red has a blue/red mirror that makes the view slightly darker and slightly more saturated.

These two are my top Rudy Project recommendations for sport lenses.

The Crimson lens is a nice and pleasant brown, which gets more like a rose when fully activated. It gets as dark as a category 4, very dark, but with much more contrast than the Laser Black which is also very dark. It seems to only come in a few styles. I would recommend it as a hiking option and a versatile pair that can be used for sports or everyday.
