Has anyone experienced the Serengeti Mineral Polarised Smoke lens? What do you think of it? How does it compare to other lenses especially grey ones?

Last night I found my old Serengeti Jordan's that I would have bought back in the nineties. They have Drivers sienna gradient lenses from my research. Definitely photochromic drivers gradient. Don't know what the "sienna" reference is? I'm guessing it's a name like "sedona", but has been dropped in favour of "drivers", alone? This is great, didn't realize I still had them. Still in good condition too. The image below is just one from the internet, but that's the one's.

I have just bought Serengeti 555nm Blue Mirror and Costa Blue Mirror. The Serengeti's VLT is supposed to be 8-25% The Costa's 10% Now I have to say that the Serengeti's don't get anywhere near as dark as the Costa's although they are rated to go 2% darker. And I am talking about in full sun, very bright conditions. Why is that so??? I was thinking about getting the Serengeti drivers as well, however they will probably be even less dark in full sun I imagine? Can you comment on the above, I am keen to hear your perspective. Especially any scientific explanation. Thanks, Ken.

Has anyone on here had dealings with a company out of Spain that has an online sunglass and spectacle store called "Optical H". I am in Australia and came across them and a couple of others in Europe with good prices on Maui Jims. Around $90 cheaper than I can get locally. Their web site is extensive and looks pretty legit, but these days with AI I believe you can never be too sure. Trustpilot and Google reviews have a lot of good reviews but also enough bad reviews to make me too nervous to just jump in and buy without some further verification.

Hi, thinking about getting a set of MJ Southern Cross with the HCL lens. But what I can't find anywhere is will the lens have the bi-gradient mirror? Do all HCL lenses have it? Or only in some models? Can you get it both with and without? Hope someone can set me straight. Thanks.

I remember seeing some commentary on the above in regard to whether they work in cars. This is what I got back from Serengeti. "Thank you for your request and your interest in our Serengeti. We confirm that our photochromic lenses work properly in a car. In that case we recommend our Mineral Polarized Drivers lens. This lens is engineered to transmit and distinguish red, green and yellow colors, so they can pop in all environments. This lens provides technicolor sensations of warmth and is ideal for driving because it enhances colors and contrast, while lightening and darkening to provide optimal light transmission in any condition."

I have received my new glasses as above and tried them out a bit this morning in overcast conditions. All seems to be good so far. Something interesting I discovered though, I thought Serengeti using a blue mirror on a green lens tuned to 555nm was unique until I found that popular Australian brand Spotters, does similar, just they use their Nexus mirror which is blue/green. Here's a link to the page: https://spotters.com.au/pages/natural-lenses-crown-glass Hope you find this interesting. Spotters are very highly regarded here in Australia.

Can anyone put me onto some reasonable quality but inexpensive photochromic glasses that cover from fully clear to cat 2? Or even to cat 1? Thier purpose is for taking my boat out offshore in the dark pre-dawn or staying out post sunset. As I need glasses on to stop wind burn, can't even see properly with the wind in my eyes. Would like them to be able to handle the sunrise, until it is light enough for my regular sunnies to take over. I am in Australia.

Hi, I have read all your articles I believe. And found it absolutely fascinating. One thing I must question in regard to lens base colour and mirror colour match ups. Some makers of sunnies will put together the likes of brown base with blue mirror, both of which reject blue light. To me that doesn't really make sense at this point, because wouldn't that be overdone on blue rejection? Overly enhancing reds and greens? Or Same with a rose base and green mirror both rejecting green light and overly boosting purple and amber? The first combination is fairly common, the second is by MAKO, who actually do both. I understand the aim with the brown base, blue mirror for offshore fishing where you are surrounded by blue and pretty much only blue, unless the sky is cloudy. But still, isn't that overdoing it? And with the rose lens, green mirror, aimed at inshore fishing, where if you are up mangrove lined creeks you are surrounded with a lot of green which is even reflected off the water, but typically blue or grey skies. Rose and green overdoing it or what? I did a quick comparison, not a proper one, but felt the above where too bright and rosy, but the Costa grey base, blue mirror was a lot darker and more comfortable. Interested to hear your thoughts. And any scientific explanation.

Hi, I am torn between the two above sunnies. I am wanting them mainly for offshore fishing. One thing I like about the Serengeti is it is photochromic so should be a bit more versatile being able to work in lower light conditions than the Costa. What would you say to that? I have read all your reviews already BTW. Great work, Appreciated. And then the other thing is that I want two different pairs. So probably if I was to get the Serengeti Blue, for offshore fishing & general use. I may also get the Drivers for driving, general use and fishing inshore and overcast conditions. If I get the Costa's then would be likely to get the second Costa's as the green mirror 580G version for inshore fishing, driving and general use. Which two do you think would be the best pairing for those use cases and complementary to each other. Also would just one of the above 4 do all? I was thinking that maybe the Serengeti Blue 555nm would? I should also ask is there a better one set solution you could put me onto? Maybe MJ? Cheers, Ken.
